What We Do
Here at 1st Winnersh Scout Group we believe in fun, adventure and life skills. We work hard and play harder. We have active sections that work at getting their Chief Scouts award, Bronze for the Beavers, Silver for the Cubs and Gold for the Scouts.
Whilst doing this we try to give our young people the opportunity to develop, to follow their individual passions and to learn new things but above all to have fun and take pleasure from doing it! On the activity front we are lucky enough to have our own climbing instructors so there is plenty of opportunity for rope based activities.
We regularly go away with opportunities for nights away across all age ranges. These opportunities include events within buildings, campsites and green field camping, where we have to provide all our own facilities. Some of our camps are to national centres where we give the young people opportunities to take on new adventurous activities. Other activities we undertake include making use of the water (we are fortunate to be based next to a lake with sailing and kayaking available).
We also hike, take part in orienteering, go cycling, create interesting pioneering projects (bridges and soak the leader for example). And these are just a few of our activities! We also go each year to the Panto on Ice and the cubs do the Panto at the Hexagon. In addition We attend the South East Berkshire gang show each year and have been lucky enough to see one of our own scouts in the show, indeed, he still performs in it each year, albeit as an explorer scout now.
